Trello and the Supermarket
You know those times when you're away from your game for a few days to focus on your paid work and coming back to gamedev looks too timesome? These last days have been like that.
I felt overwhelmed while looking into what I still need to develop to have a minimum viable game. That was a bummer, specially in this quarantine due to Covid-19 which we're all going through. It's a hard time for everyone's mental health, so I had to take some time off.
But I managed to find my way back yesterday. To feel less overwhelmed, I reorganized the Trello board I was using to take notes about the game. Now it's very organized, I created lists that include what should be developed for each version, and the version 0.1.0 will be my minimum game, so everything I have to do is listed there.
All organized, it was time to actually work on the game. Organizing is cute, but you know... It doesn't yield any results.
So today I finished drawing my supermarket scenario. I had to draw art for a few products. That was a little tough because to have Full-HD resolution for the game and still work within my pixel art range - which is very limited, let's be honest - I'm working with a 10x zoom for the art. That gives me a useful area of 192x108 for the entire game, and a few calculations after, I had to draw the bigger boxes using a 4x6 resolution. I'm very satisfied with the results. See below:
I got to the point in which the butter (in yellow inside the red refrigerator) has a 2x4 resolution. Probably you can't see but I drew egg boxes as well, the orange ones in the bottom of the refrigerator. Well... such is life.
Anyway, I'm hopeful that my Trello will get me back on track with gamedeving.
